John Fitzpatrick
– founder of Brazil Political and Business Comment - is a Scotsman who first visited Brazil in 1987 and has written extensively on the country´s politics, business, economy, culture and history. Before settling permanently in São Paulo in 1995, he spent around 20 years as a journalist working in several countries. His involvement with Brazilian politics goes back to 1996 when he started writing regular political commentaries for foreign clients of a bank where he worked as editor.

After setting up his own company, Celtic Comunicações, he continued to provide political comments for Brazil Finance Wire, the English-language service of the Agencia Estado news agency, and the Swiss-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. He also spent two years as editor with a financial consultancy run by Deutsche Bank. During this period he took part in regular meetings of a client advisory committee, whose members included former communications minister, Luiz Carlos Mendonça de Barros, and former Central Bank president, Gustavo Loyola. He was also an associate editor and columnist of the Infobrazil site for four years. His articles have appeared in many magazine and sites and he is interviewed regularly by the international and Brazilian media. Fitzpatrick has made presentations and speeches at various locations, including Latin America´s most prestigious business school, the Fundação Getulio Vargas, and the São Paulo stock exchange, the Bovespa.
