Brazil Political Comment´s latest interview is with Andre Loes who is head of economics and equity research at Santander Banespa in São Paulo. Loes is one of the most highly respected economists in Brazil. He was voted "Best Economist" in the "best analysts in Brazil" survey by Institutional Investor Brazil magazine for two consecutive years (2000 and 2001). His team also came second in the "All-Brazil Research Team" survey by the same magazine in 2004 and 2005. In this interview he talks about Brazil´s economic strengths and weaknesses and how the country will be affected by the current volatility on the international markets. He voices concern about the steady increase in government spending and looks ahead beyond this presidential year´s election to 2010 and suggests that Aecio Neves, governor of Minas Gerais, may well be the man to lead Brazil into a new era.
